H2 is a fast Java SQL database engine that supports transactions, subqueries, views, referential integrity, encryption, Java functions and triggers. The database can be embedded in Java applications or used in client / server mode. High availability features (clustering / failover) are included. JDBC as well as (partially) ODBC are supported. Available as Java library and as native executable (using GCJ). Small footprint (less than 1 MB). A browser based console application is included. H2 stands for 'Hypersonic 2' and is written by original author of Hypersonic SQL.
